Amazon Review – “Grunt was sexy, twisted with angst, lust, love, and a perfect plot to keep you guessing. I would recommend this beauty to anyone looking for something darker, and wanting a new twist on romance.”

Six days.
No one thought I could last
Here in the cell—I now call home
They didn’t know I grew up in the prison of my crime family’s dream.

Six weeks.

No one thought I could withstand
The loss, the drugs, the torture
They didn’t know how much I would enjoy their game.

Six months.

No one thought I could survive
Their puppet and prey—but I like to play—Hard.
And I don’t lose.

They picked the wrong guy. Their so-called ‘grunt’ would fight to get home and take revenge. I vowed to come back—for her—for Kaci. But everything changed.

My maniacal mind wrapped with a pretty mug, I am an unforgiving opponent, tough—tougher than they ever imagined.

And I will never – ever – break.

Embracing diversity. Coffee addict. Mango lover. Blueberry fetishist. Sweet peach tea crazy. Red wine devout. Whiskey deviant. Tattooed & pierced. Loves shoes. Collects rosaries. Fanatical organizer/cleaner/list-maker. Never sleeps. Hermit and recluse.

KAILEE REESE SAMUELS has been spinning tales since she can remember. Her books are contemporary fiction with a no-holds-barred attitude. She adores listening to her character’s ramble and putting them into situations that push the boundaries.

Creativity is the way to change.

Wow!  I am not sure where, to begin with, this novel.  I was given an advanced copy in exchange for my review.  I don’t think I would have ever purchased this book if I saw it on my newsfeed because of the name, right!?  “Grunt” reminds me of “Reek” from Game of Thrones (aka Theon Greyjoy).  BUT now that I had a chance to read it, I’ve changed my mind.  Grunt was an amazing read, and here’s why:
⦁ Character development:
The story revolves around a kidnapping, I won’t tell you who or how, but it’s heartbreaking to read.  The author’s description brings the torture to life.  Torture is a scary word (I know, I know), but without the dark, you can’t the light.  The reader is brought into his world of pain and suffering.  The writing reminded me a lot of Pepper Winters (Indebted Series, oh so good too, if you are into that kidnapping, torture, and crazy sex style type of books ).
⦁ Plot:
The reader is thrown into the drama and you never know which way the story is unfolding.  This story has never been “done” before which is why the plot is just so damn good.
⦁ Twists (and twistedness of it all):
This book is not for the faint of heart.  It’s not a hearts and flowers story.  It’s dark and dirty, and sometimes I said “WTF” to myself along the journey of the main character, Sal.  The supporting cast of characters are essential to the plot.  The twist and turns that are thrown into Grunt will keep you guessing.
I, however, did NOT read the first 2 books in this “SOS Series” which also revolve around the same “club” as the author’s debut novel “Juliet” (of which I did not read either).  Evidently, I was unprepared, BUT as someone who started with Book #3, you can do it as a stand-alone and you will love it.  I cannot speak to the other books as I have not read them, but I will be sure to check them out.
